Effect of anodal high-definition transcranial direct current stimulation on the pain sensitivity in a healthy population: a double-blind, sham-controlled study

چکیده

In Brief High-definition transcranial direct current stimulation (HD-tDCS) of brain areas related to pain processing may provide analgesic effects evident in the sensory detection and thresholds. The somatosensory sensitivity was assessed after HD-tDCS targeting primary motor cortex (M1) and/or dorsolateral prefrontal (DLPFC). Eighty-one (40 females) subjects were randomly assigned 1 4 anodal protocols (20 minutes) applied on 3 consecutive days: Sham-tDCS, DLPFC-tDCS, M1-tDCS, DLPFC&M1-tDCS (simultaneous [tDCS] DLPFC M1). Subjects experimenter blinded tDCS protocols. each day, before by thresholds thermal mechanical skin stimulation, vibration thresholds, pressure effectively protocol, with no significant difference rates whether they received real or placebo between groups. Compared none active caused changes Independent protocols, except increased immediately first protocol compared baseline (P < 0.05). Overall, not able induce modulation this healthy population sham-tDCS. Unrelated a decreased found intervention, indicating effect possible habituation quantitative testing assessments. These findings add increasing literature null modulatory system. high-definition configurations significantly more effective than sham modulating sensitivity.

Repeated Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) on Methamphetamine Craving: a Randomized, Sham-Controlled Study

modulation of dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) activity using non-invasive brain stimulation, such as transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), enhanced the prospects of substance use disorders rehabilitation. Methods: we carried out a randomized sham-controlled clinical trial to assess the effect of repeated tDCS at DLPFC on drug craving in 30 abstinent male methamphetamine users. ...

Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation in delirium: A double-blind, randomized, sham-controlled, pilot study

Purpose: Delirium is a fatal but potentially reversible disorder of Central Nervous System that adds a lot of costs on health systems. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of intermittent theta burst stimulation on severity and course of delirium. Methods: This was a double-blind, randomized, sham-controlled, pilot study. The participants were randomly allocated into two groups of ...

Effect of Anodal Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation on Autism: A Randomized Double-Blind Crossover Trial

The aim of this study was to evaluate the Childhood Autism Rating Scale (CARS), Autism Treatment Evaluation Checklist (ATEC), and Children's Global Assessment Scale (CGAS) after anodal transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) in individuals with autism. Twenty patients with autism received 5 consecutive days of both sham and active tDCS stimulation (1 mA) in a randomized double-blind cros...

A double-blind, sham-controlled trial of transcranial direct current stimulation for the treatment of depression.

Two recent sham-controlled studies found that transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) was an effective treatment for depression. As tDCS is painless, relatively safe and inexpensive, its efficacy in treating depression warrants further investigation. This double-blind, randomized study tested tDCS at the same stimulation parameters as a previous positive study (1 mA current strength, fiv...

How Does Anodal Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation of the Pain Neuromatrix Affect Brain Excitability and Pain Perception? A Randomised, Double-Blind, Sham-Control Study

BACKGROUND Integration of information between multiple cortical regions of the pain neuromatrix is thought to underpin pain modulation. Although altered processing in the primary motor (M1) and sensory (S1) cortices is implicated in separate studies, the simultaneous changes in and the relationship between these regions are unknown yet. The primary aim was to assess the effects of anodal transc...
